But seriously, if there’s one thing we stand for at The Un-Wedding, it’s doing exactly whatever the hell you want to for your wedding. This editorial shoot was styled on the concept of couples who just want to do things on their own terms. The couples who see the long list of traditions, and say “I’ll make my own, thanks”. The couples whose day is just about them, and reflects that.

Same-sex couple walking toward the camera with their arms around each other. they're both holding bright blue, purple and green bouquets and have similar white jumpsuits on. One has a straw hat on.

Feel like rocking a straw hat on your day? Go for it. Want a whole meadow of wildflowers in your hair? Do it! Whether you choose a soft, ethereal pallet of blushes, or choose bold, slamming colours - it’s all you!

The concept to capture the celebration of love honestly, realistically, naturally and spontaneously. We wanted to create an intimate setting, but with a personality that felt it could go onto a big party afterward. Free-flowing, young, and always romantic.

A rustic table with rustic wooden fold-up chairs are laid out, with powder blue linen draped over the table. The table is very busy with bright blue flowers, white placements and blue menus. The table is set in front of a floor to ceiling window.

The bold blue theme running throughout the concept simply came from seeing a wonderful blue garden hydrangea bush. This image filled my heart with joy, and thoughts of romantic summers.  I thought for ages about how those striking, playful pompom blooms encapsulated so much, and the design evolved from there.

No denying, blue is a popular colour within wedding flowers, but despite its popularity, florists can fear blue blooms. It can be a tricky colour because there are limitations of flower choice, and it can also sometimes look a little traditional and "weddingy".

This shoot is obviously not traditional, “weddingy”, or twee. We designed simple, modern vibes by pairing the blue with the fresh feel of clean lines, and bright natural sunlight. It helps that the sunlight came from the beautiful, huge orangery windows, too. In. Love.

A close-up of the table layout. The focus is on a couple of white candles, and a vintage clay bottle that holds a sprig of wheat and a bright purple flower. In the background are bright blue pops of hydrangeas.

Another important element to the shoot was this mix and match feel.

The diversity of swapping in and out elements to make the mix and match vibe really adds to the feeling of freedom and going your own way. To capture this, we mixed bridal and non-bridal outfits, accessories, flower textures with fresh and dried, and stationary textures.

Simplistic wooden tables and chairs were styled in a minimal but feminine way, allowing the blue hydrangeas to be the star and really pop! We styled several hair and makeup looks to demonstrate a smooth and easy way to switch from a day to night look without uphauling the entire look.

These ladies in love are all about living in the moment, enjoying each other, and partying hard with family and friends into the long summer evening! Their looks reflect all of that.

From daytime jumpsuits and separates, then followed by killer suits or long, full skirts. We included pieces by Karen Willis Holmes, Bowen Dryden, and Susanna Greening.

We absolutely love the hair and makeup styling by Book Of Love directory babe, Sarah Parkinson Bride. Pearl makeup and strong blusher, finished off with the bespoke statement earrings, dried gypsophila halos, and powder blue heels. All perfect and ready for a vintage bike ride in the gardens.

We love showing couples who have slightly different vibes from one another. But collectively, it all works so well together and is aesthetically pleasing, which always works particularly well for a modern and untraditional wedding style.

It's your wedding, your way! So just enjoy being you, and enjoy each other on your special day. That’s the un-wedding way.
