It feels like a long time since we ran a giveaway on here but THE UN-WEDDING recently hit 20,000 followers on Instagram and I’ve decided to look upon this milestone as 20,000 reasons to smile in what has been a pretty shitty year for the wedding industry. Am I right?
Of course, I’m well aware that little old me hitting 20k followers doesn’t solve the problems or take away the heartache that my industry is suffering RN and will be for at least another year or 2 but I’m proud of this milestone nonetheless. It has come at a good time and serves as proof that the wedding industry is still alive and kicking, people are still getting engaged, and love is not cancelled!
Before I go on to reveal the prizes and what you need to do to win, I’m just going to fill you in on why I felt it was important to mark what might seem like a pathetic milestone to an actual influencer!

For anyone who’s recently engaged and new here, I’m Melissa and I started THE UN-WEDDING 5 years ago when my eldest was just 2 years old. I was working as a makeup artist in my small town, making hardly any money and feeling completely disillusioned by it all.
I’d noticed that most of my clients were having the same style of wedding at the same venues wearing almost the same dress and going for the same hair and makeup styles. It was as though they were following a formula, a formula that had been carved out by the traditional wedding industry.
So, I started THE UN-WEDDING as a space for all the modern brides who weren’t feeling represented by the wedding industry at large. I knew they must be out there because I had been one!
I got married in 2012 and I remember finding it a real struggle to source wedding suppliers that were representative of ‘me’. I made a lot of my own wedding planning decisions reluctantly because I too, was following the ‘formula’ and listening to people telling me what I should and shouldn’t have. How many couples have had to listen to the words:
‘You can’t do that, that’s not tradition!’
The purpose of THE UN-WEDDING has always been about giving couples the courage plan the wedding they really want and not the one they are told to have. Our ethos is simple:

5 years on and the message keeps spreading and getting stronger. THE UN-WEDDING has introduced over 4500 brides and their squad to over 130 independent businesses through our exhibition shows, subscription boxes and brand directory, that’s something I am really proud of. But THE UN-WEDDING wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for our community of House Of Love + Book Of Love suppliers, followers on the blog, Facebook, Pinterest and of course Instagram!
